What We Believe

The Scriptures. The Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself. It is truth without any mixture of error, a testimony to the kingdom of God in Christ, has salvation for its end, is the basis of Christian union, and is the supreme standard by which all else is judged.

God. There is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This triune God, as the sovereign and holy creator of all things, is worthy of our highest love, reverence and obedience.

Man. Man is the special creation of God, both male and female, made in the image of God. Thus every person is to be treated with dignity, and the gift of gender is part of the goodness of God's creation. Despite being made in God’s image, man has rebelled against God and is now separated from Him and under condemnation. Only the grace of God can restore man unto fellowship with God.

Salvation. God has acted in grace to save a people for Himself. God the Father, in His great love, sent His Son into the world to make atonement for sin. God the Son, Jesus Christ, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was crucified as a substitute for sinners, rose from the dead, and ascended to the Father as Lord of all. God the Holy Spirit regenerates sinners, giving them new life in which they freely turn from their sins and trust in Jesus as Lord. The good news of salvation is to be preached to all people, as there is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved. Being united to Jesus through faith, believers are thus justified, adopted as God’s children, empowered for sanctification, and secured for glory. All true believers are preserved by God and persevere to the end. In short, salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, for the glory of God alone.

Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment, to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drink as a beverage, and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage that, when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
